Multi-domain SSL monitoring
Track the certificates of all your client domains and get several reminders before a browser shows anyone a security warning.
The reminder schedule
Work out how the domain renews and who is responsible for it.
The certificate is getting close. You can confirm that automatic renewal is actually working.
Two final reminders stop a forgotten certificate from turning into a red warning for visitors.
Why monitor it
When a TLS certificate expires, browsers block or discourage access to the site. To a client, the difference between a forgotten certificate and a security breach isn't obvious: their trust is already dented.
Renewal is often automatic, but it can fail after a DNS change, a hosting migration or a configuration mistake. External monitoring checks the expiry date actually presented to visitors.
Across the portfolio
Group several sites and subdomains under the same client and see their status in a single dashboard.
The date observed is the one on the certificate the domain presents publicly, not a date typed in by hand.
Identify the domain and the client straight away, and start the renewal without hunting for either.
The same site can be monitored for its certificate and its HTTP availability. See also our page on website monitoring for web agencies.
Frequently asked
The term SSL is still widely used, but modern certificates secure connections with TLS. Either way, Watchtower Ping monitors the expiry date of the certificate the domain presents.
No. You add the site's address in Watchtower Ping and the public certificate is checked remotely.
Yes. On the following checks, the new expiry date replaces the old one in the dashboard.
Yes. A shop, an API or an application on a subdomain can be added as its own site and filed under the right client.
